Architecture as a pictorial motif offers the painter an enormous variety of possibilities. In the architectural picture he can articulate the strict laws of pure proportions, the clarity of linear pictorial orders, the dramatic tension between surface and body, between space and setting.

Over a period of almost two decades, there are really few pictures in which houses are not the main motif: individual buildings, façades, street alignments, quiet squares and factories.

His loves tonal colours, but often adds flashy colour accents; a surprising red or an orange can dominate a picture. The colour remains bound to the object, it belongs to a façade, an advertising sign, a toy. His likes to work with surprising, often complicated lighting effects.
