Buri's work, which focuses on canvas paintings, murals, stained glass windows, mosaics, watercolours and lithographs, has no narrative programme. It aims to challenge the eye through the interplay of colour and form and to delight in the sense of Matisse's "joie de vivre". Landscapes, trees, the studio, churches and cloisters, still lifes of flowers and fruits as well as portraits are the most important subjects. Central themes are nature and pictorial illusion, the act of painting, the painter. Spectral colourfulness, combinations of complementary colour pairs, serial variation of colour, juxtaposition of geometric and organic forms and a penchant for ornament are characteristic. Working in series, combining different stylistic elements and motifs belonging to different times, areas and levels are typical features in Buri's work.
