Paul Camenisch, who initially worked as an architect, is best known today for his early works, which made an important contribution to the reception of Expressionism in Switzerland: his luminous, fantastic-looking architectural watercolours, which bear witness to his knowledge of architectural theories and utopias of the time, and his energetic figure paintings and Ticino landscapes from the time of the Red-Blue artists' group, which overcame the influence of Kirchner around 1928.
